At the heart of our values is community support

BCC IT Community

BCC IT is an integral part of its local community, providing jobs and supporting many grassroots sports clubs, projects, charities and community organisations: the lifeblood of sport and recreation across the county.

An office refit in 2017 was seen as the perfect opportunity for BCC IT to create a focal point at its HQ meeting room to illustrate the company’s values and to provide recognition of the company’s sponsorship of grassroots sports clubs, projects and talent, as well as highlighting the current wide geographic area the company covers, supporting not only businesses in Wales but many others throughout the M4 and M6 corridors.

Rhiannon Roberts of Rhiannon Art, a local artist, was commissioned to create and paint a ‘live’ community wall mural in the meeting room to illustrate the sponsored local talent, such as record holding four time consecutive under-23 men's British time trial title; Carmarthen Team Wiggins cyclist Scott Davies, who joined the World Tour Team; Team Dimension Data for Qhebuka in 2018; U21 Wales Ski Team Aiden Jones, Carmarthen 15 years old GB Topper class sailor Aled Llewellyn-Jones, European Junior Tour golfer Dion Regan, Carmarthen Football Club, Newcastle Emlyn Rugby Club and many other grassroots sports clubs. This is a working wall mural, in the sense that new additions will be made to it on an ongoing basis.

In particular, grassroots activities act as a launch pad for talented young people to become future elite successes. Not only that, they serve as invaluable social hubs within their communities; they bring people together, provide opportunities to participate in sport and to learn new skills, and help people to maintain healthy, active lifestyles.

Many of these organisations are working hard to maintain their clubs in a tough economic environment. BCC IT recognises this hard work and is proud to be able to assist in keeping these clubs running.

In addition, a smaller wall mural greets visitors at the entrance to BCC IT in which Rhiannon has included iconic landmarks that tell the rich story of the area’s history and its people. These include the Cofiwch Dryweryn stone, situated near the A487 road, between Aberystwyth and Llanrhystud, which is a stone monument dedicated to the people of the Tryweryn Valley, who, in 1957, were forced from their homes in an undemocratic fashion by Liverpool council, so that the area could be flooded and used to supply water to the English city. Almost every politician in Wales opposed the flooding, and the people of Wales were outraged at the powerlessness of Wales, its people, and even its representatives in Parliament.
