Lowri is Racing Ahead in Welsh Cycling

At BCC IT, we’re passionate about supporting our community – and this month we’re proud to shine the spotlight on Lowri Richards, a rising star in Welsh cycling. With boundless energy and a deep passion for the sport, Lowri is not only an exceptional athlete, but also a powerful ambassador for junior and women’s cycling.

Early Inspiration

Lowri discovered her love for cycling at just seven years old, when the 2012 Olympic torch passed through her hometown of Aberaeron. Inspired by the games and the success of cycling, she joined a newly formed local club founded by lifelong cyclist Michael Tarling. His sons Josh and Finlay have between them earned Welsh, British, European and World titles (Finlay was also previously sponsored by BCC IT!). Lowri attended the very first session of the West Wales Cycle Racing Team and quickly progressed to racing in cyclocross, road and track events – competing both nationally and internationally.

Racing Career Highlights

Now just 20, Lowri has already represented Wales on the world stage. Her 2023 season was packed with standout performances:

  • Welsh Criterium Champion
  • Welsh Time Trial Champion
  • Multiple Top 10 finishes in British National Series events
  • Top 8 finishes at the Commonwealth Youth Games in:
    • Scratch race
    • Individual Pursuit
    • Road Race
    • Time Trial.

Lowri’s versatility is remarkable – excelling in time trials, criteriums, and demanding road races

Stepping Up to the Pro Ranks

In 2024, Lowri joined the UCI Women’s Continental Cycling Team, racing for Pro-Noctis, 200 Degrees Coffee and Hargreaves Contracting. She embraced the challenge of elite competition, helping the under-23 team secure wins in the Tour Series and National Circuit Series

This year (2025) has been especially memorable for Lowri. Just a few weeks ago she represented Team Wales at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad and Tobago, picking up decent results on both the road and track – shortly before competing in the British National Championships on a route that passed right by her home in Ceredigion. Cheered on by her local community, Lowri  described “getting goosebumps” and went on to win the Welsh Criterium Championships held in Aberystwyth during the event.

Beyond the Bike

Lowri’s impact stands out far beyond racing. She’s currently working with S4C, providing live commentary on the Tour de France and sharing insights into women’s cycling. She recently appeared on a podcast to share her story and promote the sport she loves. The podcast is due to be streamed next month on Spotify’s Cattlestrength.

Balancing her athletic career with academics, Lowri is studying Business Management and Economics with the Open University – all while maintaining a rigorous 15-24-hour training week and extensive travel across Europe.

Looking Ahead

Lowri continues to compete in the British National Circuit Series, with races in Otley, Ilkley, and Dawlish. She’ll also take on more rounds of the National Road Series through August, wrapping up her season at the Welsh Time Trial Championships in September.

Final Word

We’re incredibly proud to support Lowri on her journey. Her talent, dedication, and infectious enthusiasm make her a brilliant ambassador for Welsh sport – and an inspiring role model for the next generation.
