🎃 As the clocks go back, and the evenings grow darker October has been a month of reflection and renewal here at BCC IT.

We bid a sad farewell to another colleague, with James from our Cybersecurity team announcing his departure. James has been a respected member of the team – we thank him sincerely for his contributions spanning more than three years and wish him every success in the future.

At the same time, we’re growing! We’ve opened exciting new roles across our Service Desk, Cybersecurity, and Sales Teams. Our recruitment drive took us to the Aberystwyth University Careers Fair, and the Welsh Business Exhibition at Llanelli.com Stadium, where we connected with future tech talent and local businesses. It’s been inspiring to see so much enthusiasm for digital transformation across Wales.

🔒Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, making it an ideal time to highlight how we help organisations stay resilient in an increasingly digital world. At BCC IT, cybersecurity is more than a service – it’s a mindset. From proactive monitoring to compliance support, we’re here to strengthen your Digital Immune System. The stronger it is, the faster you recover from whatever the online world throws at you – whether it’s a phishing email, a rogue attachment, or a stolen device.

While having a Specialist Cybersecurity & Compliance Team in your corner makes all the difference, protecting systems and data isn’t just an IT task – it’s everyone’s responsibility. Having those two layers – expert protection and human vigilance – can make a big difference in keeping your organisation safe.

Practical Daily Practices That Build Cyber Fitness:

Printed data breach cost report with bar and pie charts highlighting the financial impact of cyber attacks (cyberattacks) on UK businesses England and Wales
Hands protecting digital network icons of people - representing employee and workplace wellbeing and safeguarding teams with the right IT partner
Employees watching a large screen during cyber security training - highlighting the importance of every team member in cyber defence

🤔 1. Pause Before You Click

Phishing is still one of the most common cyber threats. Always verify email sources – even trusted ones. A quick check can prevent serious breaches.

🗝️ 2. Use Strong Passphrases & MFA

Use unique, complex passphrases for every account. “BlueCoffeeMornings2025” is more secure than “C0ffee!” every time. And don’t forget to enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) whenever possible – it adds an extra layer of protection that stops most unauthorised access attempts.

💻 3. Keep Things Updated

Those pop-ups aren’t nagging – they’re fixing problems before hackers find them.

💾 4. Ensure Everything is Backed Up

Ensure business-critical data is backed up securely and tested frequently. Cloud and offline backups are both important in case of ransomware or accidental data loss.

🧩5. Stay Updated and Trained

Regular system updates close vulnerabilities that hackers exploit. Equally vital is staff awareness training – ensuring your team recognises threats before they can take hold.

🗣️6. Talk About IT

Spot something odd? Report it. Security is strongest when everyone shares awareness.

Small actions, done consistently, build a resilient culture – one that can adapt as quickly as threats evolve.

Sponsorship Highlights

October has been an eventful month for our sponsored talent – both at home and abroad.

🏁 Ioan Lloyd Rallying wrapped up an incredible debut season in the FIA Junior European Rally Championship, finishing second overall after a tough final round in Croatia. A phenomenal result for the young Welsh driver, and co-driver Sion Williams.

🎀 Chloe Brettle our sponsored baton twirler, also travelled to Croatia to represent Wales in the Majorette European Championships. Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of attending her team’s showcase evening – a joyful celebration of talent and teamwork.
