BCC IT Monthly Insight: May 2026

Resilience, Reflection, and a Reminder to Reset

May has been another  another busy month for IT support in Wales, with our team supporting organisations across West Wales, Cardiff, Bristol, Gloucestershire and beyond. From infrastructure, upgrades and cyber resilience to client feedback and forward planning, May has highlighted how resilient technology environments ldepend on far more than IT systems alone.

In this month’s Insight we share some of our recent project work, examine the relationship between cyber resilience and mental health, and reflect on a client feedback story that unexpectedly highlighted how much cyber awareness habits have evolved.

🌉 Our Team at Work

Over the month, our team have been actively supporting clients across Wales and the Southwest with a mix of onsite upgrades, infrastructure replacements and forward planning projects designed to improve reliability and performance.

This included broadband and network improvements across rural locations around Cardigan, Narberth and Carmarthenshire, alongside hardware   refreshes like routers, cloud management devices and security appliances to reduce outages and enhance resilience. We also  headed to Aberystwyth where we progressed key transformation work, including Microsoft 365 enhancements for a client, cloud migration planning for another in Gloucestershire, and early discussions around consolidating IT support across multi-client sites throughout Wales.

Meanwhile, we have been scoping future upgrades for clients in Cardiff and Bristol, and advancing server and network refresh plans to keep systems secure and up to date. Additional projects – such as telephony deployment in Llandeilo, fibre installations in  Pembrokeshire and preparations for server decommissioning closer to home in Carmarthenshire – highlight our continued focus on modern, cloud-first solutions. Overall, this month reflected a strong balance of proactive maintenance, strategic development and regionally focused IT support in Wales.

🤯 Cyber Resilience and Mental Health Awareness

May 11-15 marked Mental Health Awareness Week, when we explored the relationship between cognitive overload, awareness, and cyber resilience in modern working environments. As organisations become increasingly fast-moving and digitally dependent, IT security is becoming about far more than technology alone. Constant notifications, digital distraction, pressure, and fatigue can all influence attention and decision-making – important factors in maintaining strong cyber security practices.

Our featured article, The Human Layer in Cyber Resilienceexplored how clearer thinking, sustainable working practices and supportive workplace culture can contribute to stronger operational resilience and improved cyber awareness. It’s a short, practical read. You can explore the article by selecting the image below:

🎣 Safe Links, Real Reviews and Improved Service

A recent client interaction highlighted an interesting challenge many organisations may increasingly face as cyber security awareness improves. After contacting the service desk to check a suspicious phishing email, a client later contacted me with excellent feedback, alongside one very fair comment:

“Service was excellent, but I’m not clicking any random button, lol!”

In truth, the irony was rather magnificent.

After years of encouraging users to:

  • question unexpected emails
  • avoid suspicious links
  • pause before clicking

… perhaps we should not be entirely surprised when even legitimate feedback requests are approached cautiously too.

In some ways, this may even help explain why many organisations are seeing reduced response rates to customer feedback systems – particularly when email images fail to load and the message suddenly becomes a mysterious blank box with a button attached.

It is also a useful reminder that genuine feedback requests from trusted suppliers should:

  • relate to a real interaction or support ticket
  • avoid pressure or urgency
  • come from a recognised source or domain
  • fit naturally within an expected support process

And while healthy caution online is absolutely encouraged, every piece of client feedback genuinely helps us improve our service, recognise our team, and better understand what matters most to our clients.

So, in this very specific case, we’d like to reassure you … it is safe to click the emoji.

Final Thoughts

With two longer bank holiday weekends, May reminded us that taking time to pause and reset can play an important role in clearer thinking, better judgement and stronger cyber resilience. That theme has run through much of this month. Whether supporting infrastructure projects, strengthening cyber resilience or responding to customer feedback, effective IT support is about helping people work more securely, clearly and confidently.

As always, we would like to thank our clients, partners and team for their continued support throughout May.
