This Month at BCC IT: April 2025 Author: Amanda Harlow Cultivating Growth, Respecting Nature and Turning up the Heat As we step into later spring, the daffodil blooms may be declining but April is abundant with an energy of growth and a renewed sense of rhythm. Our Workforce As we embrace the longer days and bursts of springtime activity, the demand for scheduled projects and onboarding activities has surged. From Microsoft 365 migrations to new installations and communication equipment rollouts, our colleagues have worked diligently despite reduced numbers over Easter and the bank holidays. Our Cyber Essentials team are busy ensuring workstations are compliant, and that all necessary assessments are completed on time. While we are currently experiencing slightly extended lead-times on new scheduling and processing activities, we expect this to return to normal within the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, we would like to extend thanks our hard-working team and supportive community as we navigate this busy period. Community & Environmental Initiatives On Sunday April 6th, we concluded our focus on sustainability and the Great British Spring Clean with a sponsored walk from Cei Bach to New Quay, collecting litter from the beach along the way. The day blessed us with sunshine, making it a perfect opportunity to enjoy the beautiful coastline and warmer fresh air, while contributing to a cleaner and safer environment. Our group of volunteers incredibly filled three large bin liners, and amongst the flotsam bounty we collected, was discarded clothing, beach toys, empty cans and bottles, an abundance of plastic bags and wrappers, and a truly alarming amount of other plastic remnants! We hope our small actions might have a meaningful impact, and we were thrilled to raise awareness for such a compelling cause. To maintain the momentum and raise additional funds, our office rallied together for a bake-off, turning our collective creative energies into delicious treats to share. From gooey chocolate brownies, seasonal hot-cross buns, mouth-watering curry, and delicate samosas, our part-time culinary virtuosos cooked up an impressive gourmet feast. In fact, it was so good, not only did we reach our goal to adopt a Cardigan Bay Seal, and a Skomer Island Puffin, there was enough left over to adopt a Hedgehog and donate a bit more on top. In total we raised a not too shabby £88! It was all for a noble cause, with fun and team spirit abundant both inside and outside the office. We would like to continue this team spirit by inviting everyone to get involved in naming our newly adopted furry, feathered, and spiked office friends. I have included my own suggestions on our social media pages – find the links below and let me know what you think. If you are able to suggest names even more creative, go ahead and add your suggestions in the comments – we will put our favourites to a final vote! The Big Chilli Challenge Finally, there was an air of spicy competitive spirit in the office recently, when one member of staff brought in a batch of home-grown baby chilli plants. Always ready for a challenge, our crew could not resist setting the goal to see who can grow the biggest, most impressive chilli. We will share our progress as this competition heats up, so stay tuned to find out whose green thumb reigns supreme. Feel free to cheer us on or share your favourite growing tips! As we head swiftly into May, we are looking forward to sunnier days and new opportunities to grow on our journey together.
