Sailing success for young sailor

sponsored sailor Aled Llewellyn Jones

Our sponsored Junior sailor Aled Llewellyn-Jones, who sails in the GB Topper class is currently leading at the UK Topper rankings. Clear by 9 points, he is in a good position to take the top place in his final national event in Derwent next month.

Aled aged 15, from Carmarthen is a member of Saundersfoot Sailing Club. Following the end of the national series next month Aled will be competing in the UK National Championships at the National Sailing Centre at Weymouth and then his final Topper event at Shenzhen China for the World Championships. He will then transition into the youth 29er class as helm sailing with Ben Willett from Llangorse Sailing Club.

Carol Llewellyn-Jones, Aled’s mum said,

“We are so proud of Aled’s progress. He has trained and worked hard towards his competitions and has achieved impressive results. He moved into the Topper class during winter 2015/16.  In 2016, with excellent results in his age category at the National Championships in Scotland and in 5 UK National competitions, earning him a place in the 2016/17 GBR International Topper Intermediate Squad. In 2017/18 his progress earned him a place in the RYA National Squad and in the Welsh National Topper squad.”

Aled has benefitted from national level coaching and his sailing has continued to improve as evidenced by his national ranking where he is currently lying first in the UK out of nearly 200 regular national event sailors.”
