September 2026 BCC IT Insights: Keeping Pace with Change

In our September 2026 IT Insights, we look at how BCC IT has helped organisations keep pace with change through infrastructure upgrades, cloud migrations, improved connectivity and stronger cyber security.

Into the September Rhythm title

As I find myself writing this month’s BCC IT Insight, I can hardly believe we’ve reached the end of September – and with it, the end of summer. The holidays are already fading into memory, while there are clear signs of the seasons beginning to change and the pace of everyday life seems to be picking up again. People have returned from annual leave, schools are back, calendars are filling up and projects are gathering momentum, while plans for the final few months of the year begin to take shape.

Modernising IT Infrastructure and Cloud Environments

Technology has a tendency to evolve while we are busy using it. New features appear, working habits change, people join or leave teams, organisations grow and processes that once made perfect sense can gradually become less efficient. So, while January traditionally gets all the attention when it comes to fresh starts, September can be just as useful a time for a small reset. Sometimes that means introducing something new. Just as often, it means looking again at the technology you already have and asking whether you are making the best use of it.

That theme of change has  been reflected in many of the projects our teams have been working on this month.

Improving Business Connectivity and WiFi

IT requirements rarely stand still, and our site teams don’t either. With a mixture of upgrades, migrations, installations, new connections and client projects, a significant amount of work has centred around modernising existing technology. This has included replacing older Windows devices, upgrading server hardware, retiring equipment that has reached the end of its useful life and reviewing alternatives to traditional file servers.

Our teams have also continued working extensively with Microsoft 365, Cloud and Azure environments. Projects ranged from Microsoft 365 tenancy migrations and new hosted environments to audits and conversations around SharePoint, permissions and external sharing.

Connectivity has been another recurring theme. Our engineers have been improving Wi-Fi coverage and realigning wireless links at customer sites, installing additional access points, working with new leased-line and FTTP connections, and adding 4G failover where additional resilience is needed.

Elsewhere, we have been helping organisations prepare for change of a different kind. That has ranged from supporting office moves with new cabling and installing equipment for new starters, to configuring video conferencing and telephony systems and carrying out site visits and scoping work for future developments. Alongside all of that, we continue to welcome new clients – auditing infrastructure and environments, onboarding devices, and supporting organisations in locations from rural Welsh communities to busy cities across Wales and the wider UK.

Supporting Technology Change Day to Day

Of course, not every technology need becomes a project. Our service and support teams have continued helping our clients with the everyday requests, changes and problems that accompany running a business, whether that means helping a new user to get set up, resolving an issue or adapting systems as circumstances change. Technology follows the needs of the people using it – and those needs don’t remain the same for long. Often that means working alongside our clients’ own IT teams, software providers and other suppliers, as well as supporting our cybersecurity colleagues.

That joined-up approach matters. Cybersecurity is no longer a subject that sits separately from everyday IT support. A new device, office move, server migration, cloud environment or changes to the way information is shared can all introduce questions about access, resilience and security. Building those considerations into a project from the beginning is much easier than trying to add them afterwards.

Celebrating a Cyber Essentials Plus Milestone

This month we were delighted to celebrate a significant milestone for one of our long-standing clients, who successfully achieved their first Cyber Essentials Plus (CE+) certification.

Cyber Essentials Plus builds on Cyber Essentials by adding independent technical testing to check that the required security controls are working effectively in practice. The process involves considerable preparation, including device checks, vulnerability scanning, evidence gathering and any remediation needed before assessment. For our client, achieving CE+ reflects a significant amount of work across the organisation to strengthen its cyber security and build even greater resilience.

It was also a genuinely collaborative project. Teams across BCC IT, including Cyber Security, Service Desk, Sales and our technical specialists worked closely with the client throughout the preparation and assessment process.

We would like to congratulate everyone involved on reaching this important milestone.

Supporting Communities Beyond IT

There’s been plenty happening elsewhere at BCC IT too. This month I took over responsibility for managing our Sponsorship planning arrangements. I’ve already got to know many of the people and organisations we sponsor through our Sponsorship Spotlight series, and taking on this role felt like a natural step.

This month we have been reviewing and renewing several of our existing arrangements, while also considering some exciting new opportunities for the year ahead. Those conversations have taken us into local sport, community events and individual achievements, and it’s been a pleasure to learn more about some of the people and organisations doing interesting things across the communities we serve. I won’t give too much away just yet, but there will be plenty more to share over the coming months.

Preparing Business Technology for Autumn

As September gives way to October, the change of season is becoming a little more noticeable. As I write this, the first leaves are falling past my window. The evenings are slowly drawing in, temperatures are gradually dropping and summer is beginning to give way to autumn.

At BCC IT, September also brought change of another kind: new partnerships, new systems, upgraded infrastructure, improved connections and plenty of planning ahead of what comes next. Technology changes, organisations change and the way people work changes too. The important part is making sure they continue to work well together.
