Keeping Cool, Connected and Ready for Summer

For organisations that rely on secure, reliable technology to keep people working, June was a clear reminder of why managed IT support, business continuity planning and flexible cloud systems matter.

Across the UK, businesses, schools and communities have been adapting to soaring temperatures, weather warnings and the risk of thunderstorms. For many teams, that has meant more than feeling uncomfortable in the office. Heat, storms, power issues, school closures and overheated devices can all affect how easily people stay connected, productive and supported.

That is why business continuity is not only about major incidents. Sometimes, it is the everyday practicalities that make the biggest difference: a hot office, a laptop working hard not to overheat, a storm affecting connectivity, or a colleague needing to work securely from another location at short notice.

For organisations across Wales and the wider UK, the right IT support helps you stay ready for those moments. Secure remote access, Microsoft 365, cloud-based systems, reliable connectivity and clear communication all help your people keep working with confidence, even when conditions are less predictable.

June has been about keeping teams connected, secure and ready for change. Whether support has been delivered on-site or remotely, the focus has been the same: helping people work smoothly, reducing disruption and making sure technology supports the working day.

This has included Microsoft 365 support, migration planning and secure cloud adoption to help organisations move towards more flexible cloud working, managed Wi-Fi projects, printer and device installations and proactive support for growing multi-site organisations.

For clients, each project has a practical purpose. Better systems help people log on, connect, communicate, print, share information and get help when they need it, without unnecessary disruption getting in the way.

Cyber security and Infrastructure

Cyber security and infrastructure planning help organisations strengthen resilience and operational risk and make sure systems are ready for growth, change and future demand.

Alongside day-to-day support, our cyber security and infrastructure work this month has included:

  • Microsoft Entra endpoint moves to support secure access to devices and systems.
  • Network security reviews to help identify and reduce risk.
  • FTTP and SOGEA connectivity installations to improve broadband reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Replacement server builds, comms cabinet configuration, and fibre and Ethernet work to strengthen the technology foundations customers rely on.

For customers, this work helps create stronger technology foundations. Better connectivity can help teams work with fewer interruptions, cloud-first infrastructure can make it easier to collaborate securely, and cyber security reviews can help organisations reduce risk before it becomes a bigger concern.

Helping technology cope with extreme heat

Just like people, your technology can struggle in extreme temperatures.

Laptops, servers, routers and network equipment all need suitable airflow to work properly. When equipment overheats, it can slow down, shut off unexpectedly or become more prone to faults, which can quickly interrupt the working day.

A few simple checks can make a difference, such as keeping devices out of direct sunlight, avoiding covering vents, making sure comms cabinets and routers have enough airflow, and reporting unusual fan noise or performance issues early.

If you have on-site infrastructure, it is also worth checking whether your network equipment is sitting in an area that becomes unusually hot during summer. A small room or cupboard may be harmless in winter, but it can become a very different environment during a heatwave. Read our 8 practical steps using  the link below to learn more:

Summer spirit in the office

Not every hot topic this month has been weather-related. With the World Cup underway, the office sweepstake has added a little friendly competition and given some of the team plenty to watch out of office hours beyond the weather forecast.

There has also been some summer growth in the office. Last year’s chilli challenge continues growing in the background, while this year we have added a sunflower challenge. The aim is simple: who will grow the biggest flower? 🌻

We’ll keep you posted as they grow, and if you are growing sunflowers, or chillies at home, at work, or in the community, we’d love to see your photos and hear your best growing tips!
