Co-Location

BCC IT Solutions offer Co-location facilities for customers wishing to deploy their own equipment within a fully secure central site, yet still retain control over the hardware and server management.

Principle advantages of Co-location
  • Servers will be housed in highly secure data centre and are physically safer and more secure than in a customer’s office.
  • Access to the building is restricted, with cameras and other security measures in place with 24x7x365 monitoring.
  • Power to the servers is provided by multiple (redundant) feeds with generator backup and air conditioning.
  • Fire control measures are in place and, as the property is not used for normal office activities and access is restricted, many of the normal causes of fires are not even present.
  • Data on the servers can be backed up to alternate locations for full Disaster Recovery contingency.
  • The physical environment (power & air conditioning, locked cabinet, no ‘normal’ activities as experienced in an office so reduced airborne dust etc.) means that the hardware will tend to have reduced failure rates caused by power/temperature variations and clogged-up vents etc.

Aside from the benefits of security, our clients are able to access the Internet and their Internet-related services at high speeds, 24 hours a day. We connect directly to multiple upstream providers, including Level 3. In addition to the speed advantages, the internet feed is also covered by much more stringent SLAs than  standard business ADSL offers.

Even at best, internet speeds available to a normal office are 8Mbps down (into the office) and 448kbps up (out of the office). The up speed is a major constraint on users accessing the servers from other offices or remote locations. With co-located servers, the internet speeds available can be up to 100Mbps both up and down.

As the servers can be accessed (securely) from any location, should any particular customer office be inaccessible (due to fire, flood, civil disturbances etc) then all members of staff can still access the servers from any alternate location offering internet access (other offices, home, cybercafé etc).

Co-location is not suited to all businesses, but is particularly beneficial for multiple office environments & remote working. To find out the suitability of co-location for your business, simply contact us today for a FREE no obligation discussion.
